Poor ironwork on metal frames
Rough welds, scratches and damaged coating on the iron frames of wood-and-iron furniture.
Why it happens
Welds left rough or ground carelessly, and coating applied over poorly prepared metal, give a finish that chips, scratches and rusts.
Coated frames scratch against each other and the workshop floor when they are handled and packed without protection.
Sample report 04 (Jodhpur, January 2023) recorded scratches on iron stands and frames across several styles and an uneven iron frame; report 05 recorded poor ironwork, with finish problems and scratches on iron pipe, across a set.

How to specify against it
A defect you can name in the purchase order is a defect an inspector can fail the shipment on. One you only describe in an email is not.
- Weld finish (ground smooth or left visible) and full welds, not tacks.
- Coating type, colour and sheen against a sample, and the cleaning or pre-treatment before coating.
- Wrapping for coated frames so they cannot rub in the carton.
The inspection point
Each of these is a numbered check on a published scope, so you can see exactly which visit finds this and when.
